Dollhouse
The Dollhouse is a continuation of my artistic explorations of feminine roles, memory, fantasy and fragmentation within the self.
The Dollhouse is an interactive sculpture inspired by the traditional ballerina jewelry music box. Acknowledged as a feminine intimate artifact, the jewelry box encloses meaningful objects and secretive memories. As a contemporary object, the Dollhouse incorporates video and sound, replacing the plastic ballerina with a self-portrait video, dealing with dualities of the self and feminine roles.
The Dollhouse works like a traditional jewelry music box where the audience has to open the lid in oder to start the video and sound of the piece. While the glass case is open a self-portrait video plays, portrayiing a woman rotating and changing her appearance from holding a bouquet of flowers to wearing an arm lace cast. The video is accompanied by a distorted music box sound recording. A pyramid of metal pins falls from the drawer under the jewelry case onto the floor.
