TIME FRAME

September 11 to October 2

Artists' reception September 18th 3-6pm

Vlepo Gallery is pleased to present TIME FRAME, an exhibition running from September 11th, through October 3rd. Reception will be held Saturday, September 18th, 3-6pm.

Featured are three bodies of works, each emphasizing a period of time starting with the 40s into the 1970s.

Annamay Olsen’s fashion illustration career spans the 1940s to the 1980s, exhibited are pen and ink drawings highlighting the children’s market from the 40s and 50s. Far from the commercial market are Sally and Cathy Frye’s drawings. These images depict the child’s eye view of what it was to live in the lower east side in the exciting decade of the 60s.  The exhibition continues into the 1970s with Flint Gennari’s photographs of a group of high-school students/friends living their life as regular teenagers.

The groupings are cocooned in the meaning of their own contexts. Contexts that are comprised of the times the works were created, artist identities, commercial or non commercial approaches to imagery and intention. In combination, the objects in this unlikely line-up forge anthropological connections as assemblages of time cohabitating within the white walls of the gallery space.
