Artist’s Statement

The Contact Series draws on my partnership of 32 years with my wife, Jenny Tango. These paintings present intimate views of mature bodies without emphasizing the face. Tenderly clinging bodies become a terrain of familiar, yet uncharted territory. The paintings, in acrylic and marble meal on linen, reflect my fascination with fresco. Rich colors describe and embrace these “imperfect bodies”, coaxing and challenging the viewer to explore the work’s multiple levels of technique, composition, and subject.
